Rowing machines don’t need to be expensive to provide a robust workout. Sunny Health and Fitness provides a no-frills rowing machine that is ideal for anyone on a strict budget of under $100.
And this model holds up surprisingly well considering its price point.
We gave this model a thorough, extended test run during our Sunny Health and Fitness rowing machine review to see how it held up to the competition. This isn’t a water rower or a high-end model, but for general fitness, we were shocked at how well this rower performed.
- 12 resistance levels
- Extremely low-priced
- Sturdy, durable design and weighs only 20 pounds
- The resistance cylinder gets hot after extended use
- The monitoring system is lackluster
When taking this rowing machine for a test drive, the cylinder that is responsible for resistance control got very hot. It’s not a big concern, but it’s something to be cautious about. The on-board monitoring system tracks calories, time and total rows, but you’ll often find that it counts one row as two, which is a bit quirky.
But we did like that the timer stops when you stop.
Review of the Sunny Health and Fitness Rowing Machine
The SF-RW1205 (this rower’s model number) provides a cardio workout that will help you lose weight and resistance to further boost the strength building benefits of rowing. Comfortable and small, this is the right rower for homes because it takes up such little space.
Adjustable, large anti-slip footplates allow for maximum comfort as you row. The padded seat is ergonomically designed to enhance comfort, while the handlebars feature a non-slip, cushioned design.
User of up to 220 pounds can use this rower to target their legs, glutes, abs, arms and back.
Taller users of 6’ in height or taller may find that they can’t get full range of motion on this rower. The length is 53”, so keep this in mind when purchasing.
As you progress, there are 12 hydraulic resistance levels to work through. This allows you to slowly increase resistance levels to further build strength and stamina when rowing. Keep in mind that the cylinder does get hot after extended use, but you should only contact this cylinder if you choose to grab the rower at this point.
When you receive this rower, you’ll find that it’s entirely assembled except for the handlebars, which require two bolts to be installed. There is even an enclosed wrench so that you can quickly and effectively install the handlebars.
The best part is that this rower is just 20 pounds, so you can pick it up with one hand (in the middle) and move it without needing any help.
Monitoring is sufficient in terms of time and calories burned, but we did notice that one stroke is often counted as two. This isn’t much of a concern unless you’re adamant on reaching a desired stroke count.
A major bonus was that the timer stops when you stop rowing, so you can run to the bathroom and not come back to an inflated session time.
Simple and effective, the Sunny Health and Fitness rower gets the job done at a price anyone can afford. From strength training to cardiovascular health, this model is able to provide a robust workout.
